Introducing the Holland Marsh Growers' Association
After decades of exporting vegetables from one of Ontario's most productive agricultural regions, Holland Marsh farmers have seized the opportunity to sell our products in the local marketplace.
In August 2008, the Holland Marsh Growers' Association was established through a $400,000 grant received from the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation.
the might of the marsh
Located in the protected Greenbelt, the Holland Marsh has for decades been considered a crown jewel for agricultural production. With the might of the Marsh behind the local food movement growers anticipate a significant shift in choices for consumers.
Having focused traditionally on carrots, onions and celery, we will now build on efforts underway to diversify crop production to meet a wider demand across the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
a distinct brand
Association members will also work to become certified by Local Food Plus, creating a distinct "Holland Marsh Gold" - LFP brand.
Vegetables are not only grown within the Marsh, but stored, processed and packaged as well, shortening the entire distribution chain and strengthening the local economy.
Our food meets high food safety standards, reduces greenhouse gases and addresses the growing unease over food ripening in storage.
